Today, August 23, 2017, the Senate convened in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building , Belmopan for a Special Sitting. The agenda consisted of 3 Motions  and 1 Bill that was brought from the House of Representative for approval . Those are:

MOTIONS

  1. Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize to the Protocol Amending the CARICOM Agreement on Social Security Motion, 2017;
  2. Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize to the Amendment to Annex III of the Agreement Relating to the Operation of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) Motion, 2017; and
  3. Accession to the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks Motion, 2017.

Bill brought from House of Representatives

  1. Town Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2017;

However, only the Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize to the Protocol Amending the CARICOM Agreement on Social Security Motion, 2017; and the Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize to the Amendment to Annex III of the Agreement Relating to the Operation of the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) Motion, 2017, were adopted. The Accession to the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks Motion, 2017 was deferred for further consideration, as the summary of the convention was not enough.

On the other hand, Senator Courtenay called for a division on the Town Councils (Amendment) Bill, 2017. The division resulted with 7 ayes and 6 noes.

The Meeting  was called to order at 10:00 A.M. At today’s meeting, all 13 Senators were present.
