The Public Hearing held in the National Assembly Chambers in Belmopan held today July 5, 2017, began at 10:21 A.M, with two witnesses scheduled to appear before the Committee, the Hon. Anthony Martinez and the Hon. Edmond Castro.
The first witness to appear before the Committee was Hon. Anthony Martinez , Minister of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation. Hon. Martinez was questioned based on allegations made by Alverine Burgess and, as well, on an instance whereby his name was mentioned in the Auditor General’s Report on Immigration
When the public hearing was resumed after lunch, the second witness, Hon. Edmond Castro, Minister of Transport and NEMO, was brought in before the Committee. Hon. Castro was questioned based on numerous instances whereby his name was mentioned in the Auditor General’s Report on Immigration, as well as, to clarify some allegations made against him by Mrs. Alverine Burgess.
All Members of the Committee were present at the public hearing, except for Senator Eamon Courtenay and Chairman, Senator Aldo Salazar. Temporary Senator Michel Chebat was replacement for Senator Courtenay. As well, Senator Elena Smith was elected as Protem Chair in the absence of Senator Aldo Salazar today. The meeting concluded at 2:19 P.M. The Senate Special Select Committee is scheduled to meet again next Wednesday, July 12, 2017, to continue its public hearing.
