Today, May 17th, 2017, at 8:00 A.M sharp, the National Assembly of Belize got a visit from the Kids First Primary School from Dangriga Town. Approximately 31 students, 3teachers and 5 parents were present at the visit.
The group was greeted by Ms. Eudice Gibson and Ms. Mary August in the lobby of the National Assembly. They then had the privilege of entering into the Chamber and were seated in the gallery where the meetings of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the Senate (Upper House) are held. They were then given a brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly.
The students were also given a brief history of the significant role that the Mace plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives. According to Standing Order 6(1) of the House the Mace is “The symbol of the dignity and authority of the House entrusted by it to the Speaker.”
At the end of the presentation, students were given the opportunity to ask questions that they had pertaining to the information shared to them. All questions were answered and the students and teachers all assured Ms. Gibson and Ms. August that they had gathered the full information on the presentation.
