Pathlight Student Visits the National Assembly of Belize
Wednesday, 3rd April 2024, the National Assembly welcomed students enrolled in the Pathlight Program for a tour.
The group consisted of about 32 high school students from 9 different high schools from the Orange Walk, Belize & Cayo Districts in the company of 5 mentors. They all sat in the Public Galleries where they received a presentation on the functions of the Legislative Branch of Government by the Senior Clerk Assistant of the National Assembly and Parliamentary Officers. A few of the students present are also members of the Children’s Parliament.
The students got a chance to view the Chambers, hear the process by which draft legislation is passed into law, received history of the Mace and learned the process whereby persons become Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. They were attentive and engaged in thoughtful discussions after the presentation.
