Today, Wednesday, 17th May 2023, two educational organizations visited the National Assembly of Belize for educational tours in Parliament.
The first visitors were 8 foreign students who represented the International Classroom Initiative accompanied by an instructor. The second group was Santa Cruz Primary R.C. School from Santa Elena Town with about 64 students from the Standard IV, V, and VI classes, along with 8 parents, and 4 teachers.
The groups sat in the public galleries where they received a breakdown of the composition of the House of Representatives and Senate, the roles of the Presiding Officers, and the features of the Mace and Act Books present in the Chambers. The main objective of the presentations was to allow the guests to get an understanding of the function of the National Assembly. After the presentations, the International Classroom Initiative group had the opportunity to discuss the differences between Belize’s Parliament and the one they are familiar with, whereas the Santa Cruz students and teachers had the opportunity to answer questions and share what they learned from the presentation.
