In honouring the memory and celebrating the birthday of the Father of the Nation, the late Rt. Honourable George Cadle Price, the George Price Center for Peace and Development has an annual practice of randomly picking a school and hosting them with an educational tour to several institution within the City of Belmopan. The National Assembly has annually been one of their places to visit. Therefore, with pleasure the staff of the National Assembly welcomed the Jalacte Roman Catholic School from the village of Jalacte in Rural Toledo, to visit its Chamber for a tour.
The group consisted of 60 students, from both Standard V and VI, 3 teachers, and 1 representative from the George Price Center. They arrived at 10:30 A.M. and were escorted up and seated in the gallery of the Chamber where the presentation took place. The presentation was done by Ms. Ingrid Soriano and Ms. Mary August, both Parliamentary Officer 1 where by they gave the students a brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly, the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the functions of the legislative branch of government.
The students had the privilege of seeing the Mace and were given a brief history of its historical background of the design and the significant role it plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives. At the end of the presentation the students and teachers had the chance to ask questions which were answered by both Parliamentary Officer I.
