On Wednesday, 30th September 2020, a Special Sitting of the Senate was held in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building. The meeting began with a word of prayer by Senator Isabel Bennett.

On the Orders of the Day were three (3) Papers that were ordered to lie on the Table. Those Papers were:

87/1/13    – Central Bank of Belize – 2019 Annual Report and Statement of Accounts.

88/1/13    –      Social Security Board – Financial Statements for the Years Ended December 31, 2019 and 2018 and Independent Auditor’s Report; and Actuarial Performance Analysis of the Social Security Scheme as at December 31, 2019.

89/1/13    –  Supplementary Appropriation (No.4) Schedule for Fiscal Year 2020/2021.

 

As well, there were three (3) Motions that were debated and adopted. Those Motions are:

Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize to the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Between the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Government of Belize Motion, 2020; 

Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize of the Agreement on Economic Cooperation Between the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Government of Belize Motion, 2020; and

Resolution Authorizing the Ratification by Belize of the Air Services Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Government of Belize Motion, 2020.

And lastly, there were nine (9) Bills that were brought from the House of Representatives and were passed at today’s Sitting. Those are:

1. General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation (2020/2021) (No.4) Bill, 2020.

2. Treasury Bills (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2020.

3. Immigration (Amendment) (No.2) Bill, 2020.

4. Caribbean Community (Free Movement of Skilled Persons) (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

5. Land Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

6.  Radiation Safety and Security Bill, 2020.

7. Cybercrime Bill, 2020.

8.  Defence (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

9. Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

On the adjournment both Senator Godwin Hulse and Mr. President – Senator Darrel Bradley made some brief remarks to close off the Senate Meeting.

All Members of the Senate were present except Senator Payal Ghandwani who was replaced by Temporary Senator Orson Elrington. The Senate was adjourned at 2:55 P.M.
