On Wednesday, 15 July 2020, the Senate met in the Chambers of the National Assembly Building in Belmopan for a Special Sitting of the Senate. The agenda was a rather short one but one of its main highlights was the Presentation of the Report from the Senate Special Select Committee on the Investigation into the Immigration and Nationality Department for the period 2011-2013. It was first presented as a Report to be ordered to lie on the Table, and thereafter presented as a Motion, namely the Adoption of the Report from the Senate Special Select Committee on the Investigation into the Immigration and Nationality Department for the period 2011-2013. The Motion was adopted.
As well there were two other Motions, the Re-Appointment of Ms. Deshawn Arzu Torres as Chairperson of the Integrity Commission Motion, 2020; and the Appointment of Mr. Estevan Perera as Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission Motion, 2020. Both Motions were adopted, however Senator Michel Chebat called a division on the Appointment of Mr. Estevan Perera as Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission Motion, 2020, which resulted in seven (7) Senators voting “Aye”, five (5) Senators voting “No”, and one (1) Senator abstained. Therefore, the Motion was still adopted.
All Members of the Senate were present at the meeting.
