Our Speaker, the Honourable Laura Tucker-Longsworth, was recognized with the Order of Distinction during the Tribute to Belizean Patriots Ceremony, held on Wednesday, 12th September 2019, at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts, Belize City.
The Honourable Madam Speaker was among 22 other outstanding Belizeans who were recognized for their outstanding and meritorious work in the fields of education, sports, religion, music, business, journalism, healthcare, nursing, conservation, community, and arts and culture.
The Honourable Laura Tucker-Longsworth was recognized for her contribution to the healthcare system in Belize. Madam Speaker is a trained nurse with a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University in Chicago. As a founding member and president of the Belize Cancer Society, our Honourable Speaker has dedicated 20 years of service to the organization. She is also the chairperson of the National AIDS Commission and the Disciplinary Committee for Nurses and Midwives Council of Belize. She also represents Belize on the Board for PANCAP, which is a regional CARICOM organization.
