The Senate met yesterday, May 21, 2019, at 10:05 A.M. in the Chamber of the National Assembly Building, Belmopan for a Special Sitting. The purpose of the Special Sitting of the Senate was for the Senate to pass the Maritime Areas (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that had passed the House of the Representatives on May 20, 2019.
1. Maritime Areas (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
Bill for an Act to amend the Maritime Areas Act, Chapter 11 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2011, by repealing the provisions of it that had the declared purpose of providing a framework to seek a negotiated definitive agreement on territorial differences with the Republic of Guatemala, and leaving in force the provisions of it that define the maritime areas of Belize on the basis of international law.
All Members were present at the Special Sitting except for three of the Social Partners, however they were all replaced by the following: Honourable Markhlem Lizarraga was replaced by temporary Senator Jose Coye; Honourable Elena Smith was replaced by temporary Senator Marvin Mora; and the Honourable Osmany Salas was replaced by temporary Senator Abel Vargas. The Meeting was adjourned at 10:40 A.M.
