Yesterday, 7th February 2019, the Honourable Laura Tucker-Longsworth, Speaker of the House of Representatives, met with Ambassador H. E. Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for a working luncheon at the Riverside Tavern in Belize City.
At the luncheon the Honourable Madam Speaker had the opportunity to officially welcome the newly appointed Ambassador to Belize. The two dignitaries discussed areas of common interest to both countries. Among the issues discussed was the topic of FOPREL (Forum of Presiding Officers of Legislative Assemblies of Central America and the Caribbean Basin) and its impact on our parliament. The Honourable Madam Speaker shared to the Ambassador that the National Assembly currently chairs the FOPREL’s Committee on Education/Health and is working on a proposed legislation regarding nutrition. Our parliament expressed its commitment to continue working with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Also present at the luncheon were Mr. Eddie Webster, Clerk of the National Assembly; Mr. Zao-Wei Yang and Mr. David Wu from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
