Today, 11th April 2019, the National Assembly welcomed three different School Visits to its galleries. First we had the United Community Primary School from the Stann Creek District, followed by Lucky Strike Government School from Rural Belize, and then finally the Calcutta SDA School. The group comprised of students ranging from standard II to standard VI, along with their parents and teachers.
The presentations began around around 8:45 A.M. Each group was escorted up and seated in the gallery where the presentation took place. The first presentation was conducted by Ms. Ingrid Soriano, and the other two were done by Ms. Eudice Gibson and Ms. Mary August. A brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly, the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the functions of the legislative branch of government was explained. The groups also had the pleasure of seeing the Mace and were given a brief history of its historical background of the design and the significant role it plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives.
After the presentation, the floor was open for questions and all were answered accordingly by the presenters.
