On Friday, March 16, 2018, the National Assembly welcomed two schools for an educational tour of the building and an informative presentation of the functions of the National Assembly. The first school arrived at 1:20 P.M, St. Luke’s Methodist School from Belize City, and shortly after the Victorious Nazarene Primary School from the village of San Jose Succotz arrived.

On both occasions the groups were escorted to the galleries in the Chamber were all presentations are held. The first school group consisted of 60 students, 3 teachers and 8 parents. The presentation was done by Ms. Eudice Gibson, Senior Clerk Assistant and Ms. Mary August, Parliamentary Officer 1, where by they gave the students a brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly, the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the functions of the legislative branch of government. The students had the privilege of seeing the Mace and were given a brief history of its historical background of the design and the significant role it plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives.

At the end of the presentation a brave student was given the opportunity to share what she had learned.

The second school group consisted of 51 students, 3 teachers, 5 parents. The students also got a brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly, the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the functions of the legislative branch of government. The students had the privilege of seeing the Mace and were given a brief history of its historical background of the design and the significant role it plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives.
