On Thursday, 16th November 2017, the St. Martin’s Government Primary School visited the National Assembly for an educational tour of the building and its parliamentary functions. The group arrived at 3:00 P.M. and were escorted to the galleries in the Chamber were the presentation takes place. The group consisted of 45 students from standard VI, and 3 teachers. The presentation was done by Mrs. Eudice Gibson, Clerk Assistant and Ms. Mary August, Parliamentary Officer 1 where by they were given a brief description of the historical background of the National Assembly, the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the functions of the legislative branch of government. The students had the privilege of seeing the Mace and were given a brief history of its historical background of the design and the significant role it plays in the sitting of the House of Representatives.
At the end of the presentation Ms. Gibson asked 3 students to volunteer and give a recap of what they had learned from the presentation and each student was awarded extra points from their individual teacher to boost their grades.
